The National Consultative Council has agreed that the elections of the heads of state will be held in September 2025, which means that their term of office has been extended by one year.
This decision was made in the absence of Puntland and Jubbaland, who have already opposed this plan during the period of regional governments.
These points were part of the contents of the press conference of the National Consultative Council chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, which was concluded today in Mogadishu.
The Consultative Council is also in June 2025, saying that they are ready for negotiations and discussions with the members who are absent from the forum to participate in discussions to resolve differences of opinion.
The council agreed that it is necessary to implement the previous agreements to facilitate free elections, stressing that the Somali people should directly elect different political parties.
They called for the urgent submission to parliament of laws regarding elections, the multi-party system, the electoral commission, and the boundaries of the federal parliament.
