Security experts warn that the growing tension between Ethiopia and Somalia threatens the stability of the Horn of Africa region, and it creates an opportunity for Al Shabaab.

“Somalia, a country that already has a lot of weapons, now it is felt that more weapons are being imported while there are tensions. “Given the widespread mistrust and weak control, this is a matter of concern,” said Omar Mahmood, from the International Crisis Group.

Somalia has also threatened to expel the Ethiopian troops who are part of the African Union operation against Al Shabaab since 2012.

However, the security implications of the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops have caused concern in the administration of South West Somalia, which is the worst region where Al-Shabaab fighters are located.
