The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Taye Atske-Selassie, said that there is a need for careful consideration before deciding on the arrangements for the final departure of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
Taye Atske-Selassie, on the other hand, said that there is a need to consider the continuous efforts of the Ethiopian army to fight against terrorist groups.
He said this during a meeting with Catherine Molly Phee, the assistant secretary for African Affairs at the US Department of State.
Taye expressed Ethiopia’s commitment to the development of lasting peace and security in the Horn of Africa region.
“We both confirmed the importance of continuing our efforts in the fight against terrorism and building peace and security in the region,” said Minister Taye Atske-Selassie after the discussion.
On the second day, Ethiopia expressed great concern about the military support that the Egyptian government brought to Somalia, which it said could be involved in terrorism in Somalia. While Egypt said that it intended this support to increase the capacity of the armed forces in Somalia.
