Puntland’s armed forces court has handed down different sentences to judges and prosecutors of that court, who were accused of releasing prisoners who were held to be pirates and Al-Shabaab.
The court sentenced these judges and prosecutors to 2 to 5 years of military imprisonment each.
They were accused of accepting bribes for the release of prisoners including Al-Shabaab and pirates.
At the place where the judgment was taking place, there was no lawyer to defend the accused who were sentenced.
The lawyers they commissioned told the media that they were denied time to prepare for the defense of these judges and prosecutors.
Mustafe Mohamed Jama, one of those lawyers, said that what is being held against these officers is a decision made by people who were held for acts of piracy.
He said that when they overthrew the government a few days ago, they were summoned to the Garowe presidential palace, with their intelligence locked, and then he said that they were taken to prison, without any charges being brought against them.
Convicted judges and prosecutors:-
Lieutenant Colonel, Kenadid Abdazis Ahmed.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdirahman Warsame Jama.
Major Sahl Abdi Cartan.
Major Abdiweli Mohamed Mohamud.
Lieutenant Colonel Adan Ali Mohamud.
