The meeting of the National Consultative Council between the heads of the federal government, the regional governments and the governor of Banadir region was officially opened at the headquarters of the country’s presidency in Mogadishu.
The conference was opened by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the leaders include Prime Minister Hame Abdi Barre, his deputy Salah Ahmed Jama, the presidents of Jubbaland, Galmudug, South West, Hirshabeelle and Banadir regional administrations.
The conference will discuss several issues including the country’s political situation, security and federal and regional elections.
“The heads of the federal and state governments are concerned about the security situation in the country, especially the escalation of the war against Al-Shabaab, which the army has achieved great success in, and liberated many areas that were previously harassing the Somali people and completion of the country’s Constitution” was said in a news release from the Somali Presidency.
The meeting that opened in Mogadishu was absent and boycotted the participation of the president of the Puntland administration Saeed Abdullahi Deni, who did not attend the last meeting of the National Consultative Council, after he announced that he had lost confidence in the institutions of the Federal Government of Somalia.
The duration of this conference, which has not been announced, is expected to be concluded by the leaders of the federal government, the regional governments and the governor of Banadir region to produce decisions that are closely watched by the Somali people.
