The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, said that the government of Somalia is determined to compete for the seat of the chairman of the African Union Commission.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that this competition is a great opportunity for Somalia to pass through in the next forty years.

Therefore, he said that Somalia is giving everything to win that important seat.

Minister Fiqi said that the government of Somalia fully supports its candidate, the former minister of foreign affairs, Fowsiyo Yusuf Haji Adan, as he confirmed that a lot of effort has been put into Somalia to get more supporters.

He said that Somalia is competing with the Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga and he said that he believes that Somalia should be divided, and he said that there is a need for Somalis to stand by Fawsiyo Haji Adam.

However, Kenya has recently held talks to convince Somalia to give up its candidacy for the African Union Commission, in order to support Raila Odinga who has nominated Kenya.

Somalia has the support of nearly 30 African countries in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
