A bird died in the town of Lawyo-Addo after the government of Somaliland took it to Djibouti for treatment.
Minister of Environment Shukri Haji Ismail Boondare, who gave an interview to BBC Somali, said that this bird, which is one of the endangered species, was injured after it fell on an electric cable and then broke its shoulder.
Boondare said that after the bird was injured, the children of the neighborhood picked it up and brought it to a wildlife sanctuary in Hargeisa town. the country of Djibouti.
“When the children were brought, there were doctors, we took pictures and found out that he had a broken shoulder. When we saw that he needed care, a specialist doctor in Djibouti said to bring him to me,” said Boondare.
She noted that when the bird reached the town of Lawya-addo on the border between Somaliland and Djibouti, they were asked to bring additional legal documents so that the bird could be sent across the border, and while they were busy preparing the documents, the bird died.
Boondare said that they were very saddened by the death of the hawk, and the staff of her ministry expressed their condolences, saying that it was a species that is more endangered in Somaliland.
