The Somaliland government said that the Turkish Navy cannot operate off the coast of Somaliland.

After the sea protection agreement between the governments of Somalia and Turkey, many people were wondering whether Turkey will also operate on the coast of Somaliland or not, so the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland Ise Kayd Mohamud told BBC Somali that Somaliland is not in the territory of Turkey. will operate.

“We have told Turkey that they cannot enter Somaliland’s shores, and I know that Somaliland rules its shores – and Somalia rules. We are not worried at all,” said the minister in an interview with BBC Somali.

The minister on the other hand said that the maritime understanding between Somaliland and Ethiopia will soon be converted into an official agreement, with Ethiopia leasing 20 kilometers of Somaliland waters, while it is said that Ethiopia will recognize Somaliland.

Although the agreement has not yet been finalized and technical committees are working on it, the Minister of Finance recently said that 30% of Ethiopia’s trade will be diverted to Berbera port when the agreement is finalized.

This agreement was greatly opposed by the Somali government, which called it an illegal move, and most regional organizations around the Red Sea and the European Union expressed their opposition.

Despite the international rejection of the remaining agreement, Somaliland and Ethiopia have repeatedly said that they will change this agreement to an official agreement as soon as possible.
