3 members of the Hargeisa Local Council were arrested after they opposed a plan to relocate poor people from a construction site.
The arrested members were named Siikawi, Saeed Jama and Fidaar, as reported by MMTV, the police tortured them while arresting Fidaar.
The dispute that led to the arrest of these members arose from the dispute at a place in the Gobonimo market where the local government is building a new building that will be the headquarters of the June 26 District in Hargeysa town, by moving poor people.
MP Barkhad Jama Batuun, member of the Somaliland House of Representatives, criticized the local government’s plan, describing it as unacceptable, and called for the people to be spared, and promised to lead a civil uprising.
The mayor of Hargeisa, Abdikarin Ahmed Mooge, who was a close friend of MP Barkhad Batuun, quickly responded to Batuun’s criticism, saying that he is in charge of the people’s interests.
“The people know the difference between a corrupt politician, in order to achieve his interests by trading on their feelings and the one who stands day and night for their interests, their progress, who is ready to sit down and listen to their feelings, listen to their concerns in order to deal with them,” Mooge said. posted on his Facebook page.
The new local council law removes the immunity of the members of the local council except the mayor and the deputy mayor.
