The United Kingdom has pledged 2.75 million pounds to strengthen the Somali Security Forces in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

This funding, through the Trust Fund of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), will provide food supplies, communication equipment, and tents.

These funds will also support the evacuation of medical supplies and efforts to build military capacity, with the aim of increasing the operational effectiveness of the Somali forces.

Part of the funds will be used to equip the Somali military, such as coordinating operations against Al_Shabaab.

Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, Head of UNSOS, thanked the UK for its continued support, stressing its commitment to strengthening logistical support and strengthening the Somali military.

This support comes as the European Union also approved $116.9m to boost Somalia’s security.
