The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who went on a one-day official visit to Nairobi, received an invitation from his counterpart, the President of Kenya, William Ruto.
The spokesperson of the Somali Presidency, Abdirahman Khudeyfi, said the president’s trip is about strengthening the relationship between the two countries, and cooperation in the field of trade.
On the other hand, the president’s spokesman said that the two presidents will discuss how to cooperate in the fight against terrorism, as they are a major obstacle to peace in the Horn of Africa.
The Somali presidency said that the meeting between the presidents of the two countries is expected to result in fruitful discussions.
However, the President of Kenya has recently been engaged in diplomatic efforts to calm the tension between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa, which is based on maritime issues.
President Hassan Sheikh has previously denied President Ruto a meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Hassan Sheikh made it a condition that Ethiopia should first cancel the agreement with Somaliland.
