INS Sumitra, a warship of the Indian Navy, has rescued fishermen who were held hostage by Somali pirates.
According to the officials, 17 workers who were with a fishing boat belonging to Iran, were saved from being kidnapped by pirates.
Bandits forcibly boarded the fishing boat flying the flag of Iran and held the crew hostage.
Indian Navy officials said the pirates were forced to release the boat’s crew.
Indian Navy officials said their ships have been deployed in the Indian Ocean region to show their commitment to the safety of all seafarers.
It is not the first time that the Indian Navy has rescued fishing boats targeted by Somali pirates.
On January 5, INS Chennai managed to rescue the crew of a ship off the coast of Somalia and rescued all 15 Indians on board.
