The commander of the peacekeeping forces in Somalia from the African Union ATMIS Sam Okiding spoke in detail about the plan of the ATMIS force for the new year 2024 which is only a few hours away.
Sam Okiding said that the priority of the ATMIS force in 2024 is to eliminate Al-Shabaab and increase the strength of the Somali army.
“Our first task next year will be to weaken Al-Shabab. Al Shabaab must be defeated so that the Somali people can live in peace and stability,” ATMIS Commander Sam Okiding said.
He also told the commander of ATMIS that a meeting will be held soon in Mogadishu where all the commanders of ATMIS will come together to discuss how to end the operations to eradicate Al-Shabaab from Somalia.
This statement by the commander of the ATMIS army comes at the same time that the last soldier of the ATMIS operation in Somalia is expected to leave the country at the end of 2024.
