The Ministers of Defense of Somalia and Ethiopia have signed a new cooperation agreement in the field of defense and joint efforts to promote peace and security in the Horn of Africa.
The agreement signed in Addis Ababa is a renewal of the previous agreement signed in February, 2014.
Among them are the areas of military training, intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism, maritime security, and humanitarian aid.
The agreement also establishes Joint Defense Committees, which will oversee and facilitate the implementation of the agreement and coordinate the activities of the defense forces of the two countries.
The two officials praised the renewed defense agreement which they said is proof of the strong and strategic cooperation between Somalia and Ethiopia, and an important step taken towards the development of stability and prosperity in the region.
They also affirmed their commitment to work together to address common challenges and threats to their countries, such as terrorism, extremism, piracy, and climate change.
