A spokesman for the rebels who recently entered the Gacan-Libah mountain in the Sahil region of Somaliland, said that the war was triggered after President Bihi used force against the opposition.
The spokesman of the opposition, Ahmed Ali Haybe, who gave an interview to Bakayle Media, said that the president used bullets on the opposition parties, which resulted in them exchanging fire.
“We were forced to take the gun because the governments of the world have an opposition, and the opposition does things, but when the opposition was used with force and bullets, it avoided being shot,” he said.
He said that we don’t want Somaliland to fall, and we don’t want people to become tribes and to be independent, but they took the gun after the president did not listen to any advice, as he said.
The rebels, who recently claimed to have entered the Gaal-Libah mountain in the Sahel region, kidnapped eight military officers and elders in Godawayn district on Wednesday, and released them after hours.
The government of Somaliland sent specially trained RRU troops to this mountain on Thursday morning, with dozens of technical vehicles.
So, efforts are underway to peacefully disarm the armed men, these efforts are being carried out by members of parliament and traditional elders who have held meetings in Hargeisa.
During the reign of President Bihi several rebellions were declared in Somaliland, all of which were disarmed peacefully later.
