The committee tasked to assess the issues of the burnt market in Jigjiga city have after some time revealed the real property that was destroyed in this market, saying that property worth 1 billion and 536 million Birr was burnt in the big business market in Jigjiga city.
On the other hand, the committee said that they have received a sum of 102 million Birr which is the money they have already promised to some of the banks, remittances, small money service companies and also some of the people working in the Somali regional government.
The people who used to do business in this market have not yet found another place to carry on their business, as these people have not found anything to pay for their families since the day the market burned down, and these people have asked the government to help them and make them another place to do their business until an official place is established to do business.
“We want the government to quickly build a place for us to do business or for us to build a temporary place and the government should help us in this process”, are the last words of some of the businessmen whose properties were burnt in the Taiwan market in Jijiga city.
It was at the beginning of this month that we are in July when a big fire broke out in the big commercial market in Jigjiga town which was completely destroyed, and since that day there have been various daily meetings of the business committees and sometimes members of the government, which have not yet reached an official result.
