The Danab commandos and Darwish forces of the Jubbaland administration carried out a planned operation last night that killed 17 members of Al-Shabaab fighters in Weel Maaro area of Lower Jubba region.
A statement issued by the government of Somalia said that the members of the operation killed were a number of young people who the group recently trained in Aanoole area of Bu’ale district.
“A number of Malaysians who recently graduated from a school to teach young people about explosives in the area of Aanoole on the outskirts of Bu’ale District were targeted in the operation and were seriously injured,” said the statement issued by the Somali government.
Officials from the army who spoke to the national media also said that the 17 members who were killed in the operation last night are mostly foreigners.
The cooperating forces were also said to have destroyed a base where the group was gathering in Weel Maaro area of Lower Jubba region.
However, it was yesterday when the federal government announced that 40 Al-Shabaab fighters, including a number of leaders, were killed by Danab and Jubbaland forces in an operation in Weel Maaro area.
