Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates said that acts of terrorism, especially Al-Shabaab attacks, are the biggest threats to Somalia towards achieving its political and economic ambitions.

“In the first three months of 2023, the number of incidents related to terrorism exceeded all the average recorded every three months since 2016,” said Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan.

He said that the UAE is very concerned about the increase in attacks by Al-Shabaab targeting civilians and security personnel, including ATMIS and Somali government forces.

Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan asked the international community to support the improvement of humanitarian and climate change responses in Somalia.

Bin Nahyan, speaking at the United Nations Security Council meeting, called for assistance to Somalia to deal with the situation of millions of Somalis affected by drought and displacement.

He said the United Arab Emirates is committed to supporting the national vision of Somalia, stressing the importance of strengthening reconciliation, renewing the electoral system, and enhancing cooperation between the Government of Somalia and the Regional Governments through the National Consultative Council. .
