The ATMIS army has preliminarily handed over to the Somali National Army a military base under their control. It is the second base to be transferred to the country’s armed forces, to be part of the reduction of 2000 soldiers by the end of June 2023.
This station, which is located in Hirshabeelle, has been in the area under the responsibility of Burundi’s ATMIS since 2016.
The transfer of this base is in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution, which states that ATMIS will gradually transfer security responsibility to the Federal Government of Somalia.
ATMIS commander in this area, Maj. Leonce Segetera, handed over this center to the commander of the army in the area, Hassan Ahmed Hassan, while the ATMIS officer in charge of logistics, Col. Collins Musau, and senior officials from ATMIS and SNA.
“I am confident that the Somali armed forces will be able to carry out their security duties in this area,” said Lt. Col. Musa.
The commander of the XDS forces, in this station, Hassan Ahmed Hassan, said that they are ready to secure the area.
