The Federal Government of Somalia has today officially joined the Executive Committee of the World Financial Climate which consists of six members, who greatly welcomed Somalia’s joining of this committee.
Somalia’s accession to this committee was announced at an event held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change in Somalia, Khadija Mohamed Makhzumi spoke at the event about the current challenges in the country in accessing climate finance.
Minister Khadija Mohamed Makhzumi also said that Somalia faces many challenges due to the economic threat of climate change, and presented ambitious plans for the trials of Somali national change.
“Climate finance actors, including Somalia, are ready to take joint steps to reshape the global climate finance landscape,” the government said in a statement.
The government of Somalia has recently made significant progress in international relations, and has succeeded in becoming part of the East African Community (EAC) and lifting the arms embargo that has been in place for more than 30 years.
