The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, attended a meeting yesterday afternoon in Heliwa district of Mogadishu to strengthen cooperation between the security agencies and the administration of Banadir region.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that the government is giving special importance to the security of the capital Mogadishu. He said that the meeting that took place in Heliwaa district is proof of raising awareness and community cooperation which has been a long time obstacle to achieve.

Heliwaa district located in the South East of Banadir Region has been facing insecurity for a long time since Al-Shabaab was expelled from Mogadishu in 2011, and that district is said to be the area where Al-Shabaab is still strong.

Prime Minister Hamsa pointed out the positive effect of cooperation between the security agencies and the people of Mogadishu on the security of the city.

The meeting was attended by Ministers, the Governor of Banadir Region, MPs, and representatives from various sectors of society, who are cooperating with the security agencies, to eliminate the remnants of Al-Shabaab hiding in the districts.

Since August, government forces have made significant progress against al-Shabaab, launching a massive government-led campaign that has liberated more than 70 areas from al-Shabaab.
