The Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury in charge of terrorism and intelligence, Brian Nelson, made a working visit to Mogadishu on Thursday.

Brian Nelson will discuss with the senior government officials, despite their absence in the country, how to strengthen cooperation and financial relations between the two countries.

This official, during his visit to Mogadishu, will also discuss with government officials how Moscow’s withdrawal from the Black Sea grain agreement will harm African governments.

Nelson’s visit comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares to host African leaders in St. Petersburg today Thursday and Friday tomorrow, promising to free Russian grain “in exchange for Ukrainian grain.”

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has asked Russia to revive the UN-brokered deal on Black Sea grain to allow the flow of grain from Ukraine’s Black Sea ports.
