Somaliland and SSC Khatumo accused each other of being responsible for yesterday’s war between the parties in the east of Lasaanood.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Somaliland said: “The forces of the Puntland administration of Somalia, supported by allied and terrorist groups, this morning attacked the position of the national forces of the Republic of Somaliland in the city of Lasaanood in the Sool region”.
Somaliland said that its army is not invading, but that it will defend itself if attacked.
On the other hand, a statement from SSC Khatumo which was broadcasted on Twitter said that the Somaliland forces started fighting and shelling in Lasanood town and some parts of the public property were damaged.
“Somaliland militias attacked the eastern side of Lasanood city at around 12 noon local time, looting the city with mortars and damaging public buildings,” the statement said.
Yesterday’s war continued for many hours with the shooting going on until sunset, there is a loss of life and property on both sides, although the official loss is not confirmed.
