The British government and the United Nations Offices have signed a memorandum of understanding on coordinating humanitarian issues, which aims to address the humanitarian problems in Somalia.
This agreement specifies the payment of additional funds for emergency life-saving needs, and the UK Embassy in Mogadishu announced it on Friday.
The British Embassy in Mogadishu has confirmed the UK’s commitment to provide 7 million dollars in aid through the signed memorandum of understanding.
This funding has been made available to address the urgent humanitarian needs of Somalia, and to strengthen the UK’s efforts to support the Somali people.
The UK Ambassador to Somalia, Mike Nithavrianakis, has emphasized the huge impact humanitarian aid can have on drought-hit regions across Somalia, and has confirmed the UK’s continued support for the government and people of Somalia.
The coordinator of humanitarian affairs in Somalia, Mr George Conway, said that the imminent famine in Somalia has been averted, thanks to the handling of humanitarian issues.
