The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Council for Somalia and Head of ATMIS, Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, along with other officials of ATMIS, welcomed a high-level delegation from the African Union led by the Director of Conflict Management in Mogadishu. .

In the next three days, the delegation will hold talks with officials of ATMIS, UNSOS, ambassadors of countries whose troops are part of ATMIS, and civil society representatives.

Their arrival coincided with the time when the ATMIS operation concluded the first phase of the reduction of their troops in the open stations, as they handed over two thousand soldiers to the Somali government forces in seven stations where they were operating.

Last week, the United Nations Security Council delayed the departure of two thousand ATMIS soldiers for a period of 6 months, to ensure the continuity of the progress achieved in the fight against the Al-Shabaab group.

A few days after the Security Council’s decision, the Al-Shabaab group began to attack the centers where the ATMIS troops left.
