Security forces have arrested six people suspected of having explosives that were planned to be used in anti-government protests in the capital city of Kampala.

Major Charles Kabona, a spokesman for the Ugandan Defense Forces, said the joint operation was carried out based on information received on Monday morning.

The demonstration, which was planned to take place in the whole country, was organized by the group that advocates the freedom of Uganda, and it was against the bad economy and corruption in the country.

To prevent any possible unrest, security has been tightened in Kampala and its surroundings, with the police declaring the protest illegal.

At the place where the man was arrested, the police said that they also seized items such as 12 bottles of wine, coal powder, sugar, gasoline, match boxes, explosive caps, dynamite, and candles.

Uganda has already faced deadly bombings from the Al-Shabaab group, which has been at war with the Somali government and African Union forces since 2007.
