The United States House of Representatives has rejected a resolution demanding the withdrawal of American troops from Somalia within a year, except for those guarding the embassy.
In a vote taken by the House of Representatives, 321 of them opposed the withdrawal of US troops from Somalia. While supported by 101 members.
Matt Gaetz, who introduced this resolution to the House of Representatives, aimed to remove about 900 American soldiers from Somalia, but the lawmakers who are against this resolution argue that this decision harms the security of the United States.
This was not Gaetz’s first attempt to get US troops out of the conflict zone.
The House of Commons last month voted in favor of its resolution to withdraw approximately 900 soldiers remaining in Syria. He failed that vote by a margin of 103 to 321.
President Biden approved the return of 500 US troops to Somalia last year after his predecessor Donald Trump ordered the withdrawal of 700 of them during his tenure.
Joe Biden insists that it is needed to fight Al-Shabaab.
