The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today arrived in Jowhar, the capital of Hirshabelle State, as his visit comes as the Hirshabelle administration is in the final stages of preparations for the one-person, one-vote elections scheduled for June 20.

While in Jowhar, the President is scheduled to hold consultation meetings with community leaders, intellectuals, local residents and Hirshabelle administration officials.

These meetings will focus on issues such as elections, security, the development of social services and strengthening local administration.

The elections expected to be held in Hirshabelle will elect local councils and members of the public, and the administration and the federal government have described them as an important step in strengthening governance, public representation and the democratic process in the country.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is also expected to inspect the general situation in Hirshabelle areas and inaugurate development projects implemented in Jowhar.

These projects include infrastructure, social services and the reconstruction of key government facilities.

Meanwhile, security in Jowhar city has been significantly tightened ahead of the president’s arrival, with security forces increasing operations to ensure peace in the city and the areas he will visit.

This visit also comes at a time when the Federal Government of Somalia is making strong efforts to implement the one-person, one-vote elections planned to be held in Hirshabelle, Galmudug and other areas, which the government sees as an important pillar of the country’s democratization process.
