Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoor Qoor has said that Galmudug needs fair elections based on consultation and consensus, amid heightened political tension surrounding the administration’s elections.

President Qoor Qoor, who spoke today on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, said that a solution cannot be reached through division and unilateral decisions, calling on politicians and Galmudug society to choose dialogue and compromise.

“Galmudug needs fair elections based on a common understanding,” the president said.

Qoor Qoor said that the country’s political situation and the upcoming elections require “consultation, mutual understanding and negotiation,” saying that there is no other way to reach a lasting solution.

“We need elections that are agreed upon and based on a common understanding. There is no other way to achieve progress except through consultation, compromise and dialogue,” he said.

Qoor Qoor also warned against any attempt to divide Galmudug society or spread “lies and propaganda,” saying that the people now have a clear role in the political direction of the administration.

“The time of secrecy is over. People today have elders, scholars, politicians and intellectuals who participate in the decision-making. There is no time for a single group to decide anything,” he added.

The Galmudug president’s statement came as a rift between President Qoor and Villa Somalia emerged in recent days, following reports that the Federal Government was fielding another candidate.
