The EU Special Representative for Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, said she met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, focusing on financial support for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and humanitarian issues in Somalia.

In a statement published on X, Di Mauro said the EU has allocated €75 million to AUSSOM, while also stressing the importance of “burden-sharing” in supporting Somalia’s future security.

She also said the meeting discussed the implementation of the €63 million in humanitarian aid the EU is providing to Somalia, particularly for people affected by the severe drought in the country.

Francesca Di Mauro’s remarks come as Somalia faces political tensions over the electoral process and the country’s transition, as the international community continues its efforts to stabilize the political and security situation in Somalia.

The EU ambassador did not provide further details on the EU’s position on the political dispute in Mogadishu, but her statement indicated that Brussels continues to support the security and humanitarian aspects of Somalia.

The AUSSOM mission replaced ATMIS this year, as Somalia and its international partners face challenges in funding the new mission and ensuring security in the country..
