US President Donald Trump said that the Iranian government has reached out to him to reach a new deal, but noted that the terms they have proposed are not yet satisfactory for the US side.
In an interview with NBC News, Trump said that Tehran has expressed a willingness to talk, but indicated that any agreement would depend on Iran completely giving up its nuclear program.
“They have reached out to us, but the terms are not yet satisfactory for us,” Trump said, a statement he has made several times in the past. However, the Iranian government has not yet officially confirmed the claim.
Trump also raised questions about the status of Iran’s new leadership, particularly Mojtaba Khamenei, who is said to have become the country’s supreme leader. The US president said that he was unsure about his status, as he has not appeared publicly since taking office.
On the military front, Trump said that US forces have significantly weakened Iran’s ability to produce missiles and drones, predicting that this capability could be completely destroyed within two days.
He also said that the US is targeting Iranian weapons facilities, especially those that affect the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which international commercial shipping passes.
Tensions between the US and Iran remain high, with both sides trying to gain a military and political advantage over any possible talks.
