Puntland’s former Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Da’uud Mohamed Omar, has accused the Puntland Presidency of interfering in projects managed by government ministries.

Da’uud Mohamed Omar, who was recently dismissed from his post, said in an interview that senior Puntland officials disagreed on the way projects funded by the World Bank and other international organizations are managed.

He indicated that he was attacked and dismissed for managing the projects that were posted fairly and equitably, while accusing the Presidency of wanting to employ certain people in projects under the Ministry of Planning.

“My family, some of whom have PhDs and are unemployed, are here, and I could have hidden the jobs. There is no project that I have specifically written to anyone. Projects in Puntland worth 25 million dollars have earned me accusations and opposition,” said Da’uud Mohamed Omar.

He said he had repeatedly spoken to President Deni about his complaint, but said no action had been taken. He accused President Deni of turning Puntland people into enemies of the Federal Government of Somalia, to the point where anyone who goes to Hamar is considered a criminal.

The minister was recently on strike, and he resigned last week, with the Puntland presidency stopping the broadcast of a critical speech he gave when he was resigning.
