Iran has said that US and Israeli forces have bombed nearly 10,000 civilian targets since the start of the war between the two sides 11 days ago, killing more than 1,300 civilians.
Reports from the capital Tehran said that powerful explosions had rocked the city, with heavy shelling taking place in various parts of the country, according to Al Jazeera.
Iran also condemned an attack it said was carried out by Israel in Beirut, Lebanon, two days ago. Tehran called the attack an “act of terrorism” and sent a letter to the United Nations Security Council demanding that those responsible be brought to justice.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called allegations that Iran was planning attacks on the United States or its forces “blatant lies,” arguing that the current war is a premeditated operation by Israel.
Meanwhile, the US military said it had destroyed 16 Iranian vessels that it said could be used to lay naval mines, after US President Donald Trump warned of dire consequences if the vital Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping route, was disrupted.
The situation in the region has also become increasingly tense, with Saudi Arabia saying it shot down five drones targeting the Shaybah oil field, while Iran’s IRGC claimed to have fired missiles at US military bases in Kuwait.
In other news related to the conflict, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed at least six people, including medical workers.
