Jubbaland security forces in the village of Baar Sanguuni on Friday afternoon captured two Al-Shabaab fighters who surrendered to the forces after defecting from the group.
The two men arrested have been identified as Ahmed Mustafa Adan and Ismail Adan Ibrahim, who were former members of the Al-Shabaab group operating in the Jubba River region, where they had been hiding for some time.
Security officials in the area confirmed that the two fighters were carrying two weapons, one of which was a BKM, while the other was carrying an AK-47 rifle and its holster, according to Jubbaland media reports.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that in recent days, an increasing number of Al-Shabaab fighters have been surrendering to various Jubbaland forces, which officials interpreted as indicating increasing pressure on the group and a decline in its fighting power in the region.
All of these issues are coming as the government and Jubbaland Danab forces have increased their operations against Al-Shabaab in recent weeks.
