The UK Embassy in Somalia has welcomed the announcement by the Federal Government of Somalia to convene an inclusive national consultation conference, which is expected to take place in Mogadishu next month.

An official statement issued by the embassy said that the UK encourages Somali leaders to use this opportunity to reach a united agreement on electoral matters, stressing that a mutually satisfactory agreement is essential for the stability and development of Somalia.

The UK Embassy also urged the Somali Future Council to participate in the conference, and for all political parties to show compromise and cooperation to reach a consensus.

This follows a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia on 19 January, which formally invited the Somali Future Council to convene in Mogadishu on 1 February 2026.

The Federal Government also announced the establishment of a ministerial committee to prepare for the conference, chaired by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Ma’alin.

The anticipated conference comes at a time when Somalia is facing political challenges related to the electoral process and consensus on the country’s leadership, with international attention focused on the outcome of the national consultation.
