Puntland has presented four members of the Islamic State (ISIS) group, who have voluntarily surrendered to security forces in the Calmiskaad mountains.
A Puntland security official said the members chose to surrender and will undergo security checks to confirm their role in the Islamic State group.
“The government will give anyone who surrenders voluntarily the opportunity to face justice,” the official said, calling on other remaining members of the Islamic State group to seize this opportunity.
The official also noted that Puntland has achieved significant successes in the fight against ISIS, especially in recent weeks, noting that continuous security operations have caused a serious setback to the group’s capabilities.
Of the four members who surrendered, three are Ethiopian citizens, while the fourth is Yemeni. Meanwhile, a few days ago, security forces arrested another white foreign man, who was arrested in an area known as Habar Bajuuke, in the Baallade stream.
After 13 months of fighting against ISIS, Puntland forces have destroyed ISIS’s power in Somalia, and the group is now largely a fugitive and hiding in caves from Puntland forces and US airstrikes.
