Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar, (Ali Balcad) has strongly denied allegations that arms originating in Somalia are reaching neighboring countries.
The minister stressed that Somalia is working to stop the flow of illegal arms from Yemen.
Speaking at the 23rd Doha Forum, the minister told Al Jazeera Net that there is no evidence that arms originating in Somalia are reaching the hands of the Houthis or anyone else in the region.
Minister Ali Balcad said, “These allegations are not true. The only known arms flow is from Yemen to Somalia. There is no information or data that indicates that arms are flowing from Somalia to the Houthis, and we are fighting to stop that.”
He stressed that Somalia is striving to strengthen its relations with regional countries, and is working towards peace and genuine cooperation in the Horn of Africa.
