The National Vision Party, led by former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, has once again spoken out strongly against the ongoing destruction of public lands in Mogadishu by the Federal Government.

A press release issued by the National Vision Party stated that widespread abuses against the poor are still taking place in Mogadishu, with the National Army being used to forcibly displace people.

The National Vision Party also stated in a statement that individuals with the permission of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud are engaged in large-scale land grabbing outside civilian areas.

“While the ongoing abuses and targeting of the poor community, who were used by the National Army to displace them, continue in Mogadishu, the National Vision Party has learned that individuals with the permission of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud are engaged in large-scale land grabbing outside civilian areas,” the National Vision Party said in a press release.

The party also stated in its statement that the displacement of the poor has had a strong impact on some families of the Somali National Army, who were among those displaced from their homes.

The press release called on scholars, intellectuals and various sectors of Somali society to protest the current problems facing the people living in Mogadishu.

This news from Himilo Qaran comes as the Federal Government has recently carried out demolition activities that have left hundreds of families who previously had homes homeless.
