The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan, has announced that local council elections in the districts of the Banadir region will be held in Mogadishu at the end of November 2025.
Chairman Abdikarin said that the Somali people, especially those living in Mogadishu, need to prepare to participate in the local council elections in the Banadir region.
“On November 30, everyone living in Mogadishu should prepare to vote in the one-person, one-vote local council election, as population registration ended on September 30,” said the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan.
The Chairman of the Commission also noted that nearly one million people have registered in the Banadir region, and that registration activities have now begun in the Lascaanood and Xudur districts of the SSC Khaatumo and Southwest Somalia administrations.
“The country’s electoral registration process is progressing well and we have completed the registration of districts in the Banadir region, and now we have moved on to other regions of the country, Lascaanod and Xudur, and we also want to start with all other districts in the central regions. In Mogadishu, we have registered nearly one million people,” said the chairman of the electoral commission, Abdikarin Ahmed.
Finally, the chairman of the commission called on the organizations to complete the legal requirements for their names and logos, and he also called on the registered public to prepare themselves to select the organizations that have registered.
