A large-scale protest against the killing of Chief Abdullahi Omar Abdi, one of the intellectuals of Sanaag region, took place in areas of Sanaag region.
Angry people gathered in the streets and chanted slogans against Puntland and the United Arab Emirates, which they accused of collaborating in the airstrike that killed the chief.
During the protest, the demonstrators burned the Puntland flag, demanding that the Puntland administration completely withdraw from Sanaag region.
The killing of the chief has caused new tensions in Sanaag region, where Puntland has deployed troops from the PMPF units to prevent the activities of the new administration in northeastern Somalia.
The protests came at a time when unidentified aircraft are still circling areas of Sanaag region, causing great fear among the locals. Other reports indicate that many people have fled areas in Sanaag region, fearing further airstrikes.
Meanwhile, Puntland has tightened security in Sanaag region, with PMPF and Darawiishta forces ordered to be on high alert to prevent any movement that threatens security.
Puntland security agencies are also conducting a second day of investigations into the area where the chief was targeted, seeking information about the attack.
