The Federal Government of Somalia has announced the official completion of the process of establishing the Northeastern administration of Somalia, which is now fully integrated into the federal states of Somalia.
The process, which was based on consultation, perseverance and strong determination, was led by the leaders of the Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions, who last year established a transitional administration called SSC-Khaatumo.
The Ministry of Interior stated that the most important stages of the process were the approval of the administrative constitution at a conference held on July 30, 2025, the election of a new Parliament consisting of 83 members held on August 17, the election of the Speaker of the Parliament held on August 23, and finally the election of the President and his deputy held on August 30, 2025.
The Minister of Interior spent 53 days in Lascaanod to personally oversee the administrative formation process, expressing gratitude to the traditional elders, scholars, civil society and the general public of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn for their efforts and patience.
The Government particularly commended the Technical Committee for Administrative Formation, which played a major role in facilitating consultations and ensuring public trust.
The ministry said that the establishment of the Northeastern regional state is a great achievement for the people of the region, and is a symbol of unity, solidarity, and the establishment of the federal system in Somalia.
