The Somali Salvation Forum, led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, has issued a press release on the arrest of Nabadoon Hussein Mohamed Mahmoud Haadoole by the federal government.
Nabdoon Haadoole, who was arrested by Somali police officers yesterday from his home in Mogadishu, has been described by the Forum as illegal.
“The Somali Salvation Forum strongly condemns the illegal arrest of Nabadoon Hussein Mohamed Mahmoud Haadoole, who was abducted by police from his home after he bravely opposed the looting and auctioning of public land led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud,” the Forum’s statement said.
The Nabdoon arrested by the government is one of the influential traditional elders in the community, and the Forum’s press release stated that Nabdoon was a vocal defender of the property of the Somali people.
“Nabaddoon peacefully expressed his constitutional right to express his views on the abuse of power and national property. Freedom of speech is a constitutional right and a fundamental part of the system of government,” the statement from the Salvation Forum said.
The Salvation Forum also called the arrest of Nabaddoon Xadoole an attempt to suppress the voice of the people and intimidate anyone who stands up for their constitutional rights.
The Rescue Forum press release called on the President to stop the looting and displacement of civilians in Mogadishu, while also calling on the Somali people to stand united in defending their land and property.
