The Somali National Army has successfully carried out a planned operation in Omar Beerre and surrounding areas in the Lower Shabelle region, according to the official media of the Federal Government.
The operation, which aimed to eliminate the threat and suffering posed by Al-Shabaab to the local population, destroyed illegal checkpoints that Al-Shabaab had set up to harass people and harass vehicles and traders passing through the area.
The forces also destroyed hideouts where the group was hiding, which were serving as secret centers for preparing insecurity attacks targeting the population and the government.
A National Army officer who spoke to the government media said that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to clear the entire Lower Shabelle region and relieve the population of the burden of Al-Shabaab.
“The operation we carried out in Omar Beerre reflects the firm determination of the government and the Somali National Army to eliminate Al-Shabaab from any area where they are hiding in the country. We are restoring peace, trust and stability to the people,” the official said.
