The conference that was supposed to be held in Lascaanood to complete the establishment of the SSC-Khaatumo Regional State, which is supported by the federal government of Somalia, has been postponed again today, Saturday.
The Minister of Information of SSC-Khaatumo, Najib Barkhadle, who spoke to the press in Lascaanood, accused people he described as “spy” of plotting to disrupt the conference.
The Minister stated that the SSC-Khaatumo administration is committed to holding the conference and uniting to complete the administration, by unifying the two regions of Sool and Sanaag.
“The statements of the politicians reflect views that have been brought from elsewhere. The opposition party seems to be ‘spy’,” said the Minister of Information.
Reports indicate that disagreements between the SSC leadership and opposition politicians are a major factor in the delay of the second conference, which is feared to further deepen the political divisions that have plagued the completion of the SSC administration.
Meanwhile, the SSC-Khaatumo traditional clans have also disagreed over the conference to complete the administration. The clan has split into two factions: those supporting the SSC leadership and those supporting opposition politicians and candidates.
Last night, Garaad Jama Garaad Ali — the general clan leader of the SSC regions — said at a press conference in Lascaanod that suggestions and plans brought from elsewhere cannot be accepted.
He noted that the people of SSC have been under externally organized rule for the past 15 years, and that this cannot be possible anymore.
