The Somali Salvation Forum has detailed the meeting held today at the Presidential Palace with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, stating that the meeting discussed the country’s general politics.

The Forum’s spokesperson, Dahir Mohamud Gelle, who spoke to the press after the meeting, revealed that what was discussed were the agendas of another meeting that the Forum and the Heads of Government have scheduled for next month to resolve the impasse between these parties.

Ambassador Gelle indicated that the Somali Salvation Forum has taken the responsibility of restoring political consultations in the country to the heads of the Puntland and Jubaland regional states and will work on this issue in the coming days.

Dahir Mohamud Gelle also clarified that the issues discussed included the Constitution, elections and the fight against terrorist groups, which were not just decisions that had been made and were limited to being the points that would be discussed in the upcoming meetings.

The Somali presidency said in a statement today that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, through his National Consultative Assembly, has held a meeting with opposition leaders to reach a consensus on the issues facing Somalia.

The parties are expected to meet again on July 3 to continue discussions on a lasting solution to the country’s political impasse.
