A soldier killed his wife and daughter in the Fallujah neighborhood of Hargeisa on Sunday, also seriously wounding another sister-in-law.
The soldier, whose name has not been released to the media, opened fire on his family, killing his wife and daughter.
“This morning at around 8:00, my father left us, took a gun from somewhere, and then shot my mother who was sitting at the door,” one of the soldier’s children told Bulsho TV.
Amina, the soldier’s sister-in-law, also told Bulsho TV that the soldier returned home with a gun in his hand, and did not speak when greeted, before committing the murder.
“When he entered the door, my brother greeted him, but he did not respond. When he said, ‘Brother, you are carrying a gun today,’ he pulled himself together and hit the girl directly. He kept shooting her and I immediately lost consciousness,” said Amina.
She added that when the shooting happened, people in the neighborhood came out, and they tried for a long time to catch the soldier, but he kept threatening people with the gun, which led to his being shot.
Both people died on the spot, except for the injured girl, who is currently being treated at a hospital in Hargeisa.
Relatives said they did not know what prompted the soldier to kill his family, nor did they know that he had any mental illness.
The police and security agencies have not yet commented on the incident, and it is not certain whether the suspect has been arrested.
