The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, announced the death today of the most dangerous Al-Shabaab leader in the Galmudug and Hirshabelle regional states.
The leader, named Nur Abdi Rooble Nuunuule, died of serious injuries reportedly sustained yesterday in an operation carried out by government forces and international partners between the areas of Ceel Hareri and Garas Magan in the Hiran region.
“I share with the Somali people the death of one of the most cunning Khawarij leaders, Nur Abdi Rooble Nuunuule, who died of injuries yesterday in an operation carried out by government forces and international partners to kill other leaders,” said the Minister of Defense of Somalia, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi.
The minister said that this man had previously carried out several attacks in the towns of Guriceel. Dhuusamareeb, Galcad, Coosweyne, Ceel Lahele, Aad. Xarar Dheere and Adan Yabaal, most recently.
“The Somali government declares that the final consequences of the Khawarij will be like this, and we also commend the achievements of the Hiran justice forces who are in a difficult battle against the Khawarij,” said Defense Minister Ahmed Macalin Fiqi.
The statement from the Somali Defense Minister comes as fierce fighting has raged in the Ceel Hareri area and its surroundings by the Macawisleyda and Al-Shabaab forces, and the leader of Nunuule was killed in yesterday’s battle between Al-Shabaab and Macawisleyda between Ceel Hareri and Garas Magan.
