A press release from the Ministry of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia provided further details on the talks called for by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud regarding the political situation in the country.
The President of the Federal Government of Somalia reiterated his readiness to hold talks with various national leaders to find a lasting solution to the grievances of some leaders.
“The President has held talks on national issues with various national leaders. The purpose of this initiative is to seriously listen to the grievances and views of these leaders, in order to work together on the fateful issues that are a priority for the country, including the fight against the Al-Shabaab renegades, the completion of the constitutional review, and the preparation for local and national elections,” the press release from the Ministry of Information of Somalia said.
A day earlier, the president held a meeting at the presidential palace with some leaders of registered political organizations, members of civil society, and politicians who held important positions in the country, demonstrating his commitment to listening to the views of different segments of society.
“As the consultation continues, the President has formally invited leaders including: former presidents, former prime ministers, their deputies, former speakers and deputies of parliament, and former heads of state. It is expected that this high-level meeting will be held on June 15, 2025, to benefit from their experience and advice,” said a press release issued by the Ministry of Information of Somalia.
The meeting announced by President Hassan Sheikh on June 15, where he will meet with members of the opposition to his government, will be followed by another meeting convened by the President with the National Consultative Council, consisting of heads of the Federal Government and the regional states, which will be held on June 22, which will analyze the recommendations arising from the consultations at the June 15 meeting.
