The Federal Government of Somalia has provided further details about the airstrikes carried out against the Islamic State group in the Bari region of Puntland.
A statement from the Somali Ministry of Information said that the airstrikes, which were carried out jointly by the Federal Government of Somalia and the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), consisted of two airstrikes.
“The first airstrike occurred on May 31, 2025, approximately 75km south of Bosaso, while the second airstrike occurred on June 1, 2025, approximately 72km south of Bosaso, Bari region,” the statement from the Somali Ministry of Information said.
The statement from the Federal Government of Somalia did not provide official casualties from the two airstrikes, which took place on June 1 and May 31.
“These operations are part of a concerted effort to disrupt the ability of the ISIS-Somalia affiliate to plan and execute terrorist attacks that threaten the Somali people, the Somali armed forces, and international partners,” the Somali government said in a statement.
The Federal Government of Somalia thanked AFRICOM for its support in airstrikes against the so-called terrorist groups ISIS and Al-Shabaab, and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to combating and eliminating these groups, in cooperation with the Somali people and international partners.
