The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has falsely claimed that it is using force to force students studying at universities in Mogadishu to obtain their voting cards for the Banadir Regional Council elections.
Abdullahi Salad Yarow, a member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who is on a trip to Dhusamareb, told the media that there is no truth to the rumors that they went to educational institutions to forcefully register students.
The official said that the registration conducted by the Commission at educational institutions was something they requested because the registration days from Saturday to Thursday are when students are in school and Friday is a day off, so they needed to be closer to their centers.
Abdullahi Salad Yarow called on Political Organizations to go to the Regional State Centers and organize their supporters and avoid anything that could jeopardize security and encourage them to obtain voting cards.
The Commission’s response came as the leaders of the Wadajir and Himilo Qaran parties, Abdirahman Abdishakur and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, fiercely accused the Election Commission of forcibly registering students at universities at gunpoint.
